X-Men: First Class Will Supersede X-Men Origins: Magneto
News thatBryan Singerhadsigned to directX-Men: First Classcreated a lot of excitement, but just as many questions, in the world of comic book movie fandom. We know thatJamie Mosshas been hired to write, and the director had alsorevealedthat the film would cover “the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there [sic] relationship took a wrong turn.” Many of you, like us, wondered if this newFirst Classfilm meant that the long-proposedX-Men Origins: Magnetofilm is now off the table.
Heat Visionwas able to talk with the director, and get some answers. Singer admitted that First Class would “probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto,” and that “it might supersede” that plan because this new movie would explore “that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust.”
Singer reiterated a vision that sounds a lot like what JJ Abrams had in mind forStar Trek: “It’s basically about the formation of the X-Men. How they began and the relationship between a young Xavier and a young Magneto.” He also revealed that before a deal was signed, that he had personally written “a pretty concise treatment” and that its “a story that I really want to tell.”
Previously the director also revealed that his plan also involves “a romantic element,” some of the mutants featured in the original X-Men films, as well as “a lot of new mutants and a great villain.” Singer also confirmed to THR that the plan is still to filmJack the Giant Killerfirst. A script is in place and they are currently in visual development, crafting “artwork and pre-viz”.
