‘To The Wonder’ Trailer: What Is Love?

“Prolific” isn’t a word you would’ve associated withTerrence Malickfor the first forty years of his career, which yielded just five films. But it’s coming to define the next stage of it. Since 2011’sTree of Lifehe’s been on a roll, with some four films due out in the next few years.

The first of those will beTo the Wonder, which hits next month. The dreamy romantic drama starsBen Affleckas Neil, a man caught between two loves: the French Marina (Olga Kurylenko), who moves with him to Oklahoma, and the all-American Jane (Rachel McAdams), who was his childhood sweetheart.Javier Bardemalso stars, a priest suffering a crisis of faith. To the Wonderhas received mixed reviews on the festival circuit, but in these brief trailer-sized bursts the film looks utterly fantastic. The meditative voiceover by Bardem and the soaring score byHanan Townshendprove a perfect complement toEmmanuel Lubezki’s gorgeous cinematography, and all of it comes together beautifully for what looks like a tender, grown-up tale of love and loss.To the Wonderbegins its limited theatrical rollout onApril 12.

The anticipated new feature from renowned filmmaker Terrence Malick (Tree of Life, The New World), TO THE WONDER boldly and lyrically explores the complexities of love in all its forms. Parisian single mother Marina (Olga Kurylenko) and Midwestern tourist Neil (Ben Affleck) fall madly in love in France and relocate to Oklahoma with Marina’s young daughter to start a life together. As their relationship wanes and her visa nears expiration, Marina makes the acquaintance of a priest and fellow exile (Javier Bardem) who is struggling with his faith, while Neil renews a relationship with his childhood sweetheart, Jane (Rachel McAdams).
