Peter Dinklage’s ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Role Is Not CG, Says Bryan Singer

WhenBryan Singerfirst announced that he’d addedPeter Dinklageto the cast ofX-Men: Days of Future Past, the popular guess was that he’d be playing Alpha Flight member Puck. But that theory was quickly thrown out when a report spread that Dinklage would actually be playing the villain, which led to further fan speculation that Dinklage could be voicing a CG character.

Now, however, Singer has put that idea to rest as well. While the filmmaker still won’t reveal Dinklage’s part, he’s dropped a few bare hints in a recent interview. Hit the jump to learn more.

“Not CG” and “not shy” doesn’t really narrow it down, so perhaps the better approach is to look at which characters have traditionally been involved in theDays of Future Paststory arc on whichSimon Kinberg’s script is based. Here’s a summary of the comic book plotline:

The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men.

Bolivar Trask has obvious connections to the Sentinels, andMTV Geekhas even heard from a source that that is indeed Dinklage’s role. On the other hand, Trask has already appeared in the X-Men franchise played by Bill Duke. Another (narrower) possibility is Nimrod, a shapeshifting “ultimate Sentinel” who figures in theDays of Future Pastcomic books. Or, hell, it could be someone else completely out of the blue — we don’t know what liberties Singer and Kinberg are taking with the source material.

Whatever Dinklage’s part is, he’ll be joined by more company soon. Singer also revealed that he was in negotiations with another actor now, and that we could expect casting announcements about some “younger” characters soon.
