Nathan Fillion, Freaks And Geeks' Linda Cardellini, And Others Join The Cast Of James Gunn’s Super
I love me someJames Gunn, so it warms my geek heart to see that he’s assembling quite the cast for his post-Slitherfeature film follow-upSuper. The film starsRainn Wilsonas Frank, a man who transforms himself into a superhero named Crimson Bolt — despite having no real powers — after his addict wife (Liv Tyler) runs off with a local drug dealer (Kevin Bacon).Ellen Pageplays a sociopath who becomes Crimson Bolt’s sidekick. While that plot description bears some similarities toKick-Ass, you’re able to be sure that Gunn’s deliciously weird sensibilities will make it a very different film.
Gunn just announced some new additions to the caston his blog, and they include geek-favoritesNathan FillionandLinda Cardellini(Freaks and Geeks). Fillion previously starred inSlither, and will play the role of a pop idol who inspires Frank. Cardellini played Velma in the Gunn-writtenScooby-Doomovies. Find the rest of the newly announced cast after the break.
I’ve been a very vocal fan of Gunn’sSlither, and I’ve also enjoyed thePG Pornweb shorts, and other web work he’s been doing. This film has the potential to be his biggest release yet with well-known actors like Wilson, Tyler, and Page in the leading roles, and I’m hoping that it ends up being more than a cult success likeSlither. The film’s similarity toKick-Assmay end up being a boon when marketing it, and it shouldn’t be too hard to sell people on a Rainn Wilson-starring superhero comedy.
