Mass Hysteria: ‘Ghostbusters 2’ Predicted The World Will Come To An End This Weekend
If you’re one of those people who thinks theGhostbustersreboot starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones just shouldn’t happen, even thoughwe’ll get an awesome LEGO set out of it, the old Ghostbusters franchise may hold some hope for you. But beware that it will ruin a lot of other things for you as well.
AlthoughGhostbusters 2isn’t anywhere near as beloved as the first film starringBill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold RamisandErnie Hudson, it’s still a rather enjoyable sequel. One of the more amusing elements of the sequel was learning what Dr. Peter Venkman was up to after the first film, which included having his own talk show calledThe World of the Psychic. In one of the tapings of the show that we see, one of the guest psychics predicts the end of the world, and it just so happens to be nearly upon us.
Here’s theGhostbusters 2end of the world prediction, straight from the film:
That’s right, according the psychic Elaine (Chloe Webb), the world is going to end on the romantic holiday of Valentine’s Day this weekend. So you might want to say goodbye to your loved ones, or at the very least go seeDeadpoolorZoolander 2without hesitation, before February 14th arrives this Sunday. It might be your last chance.
Considering this information came from an alien at the Holiday Inn in Paramus (or at least a spaceship made to look like that), this seems like a pretty reliable prediction. After all the character Milton Angland played byKevin Dunnhad his prediction nearly come true. New Year’s Eve 1989 is when the climax ofGhostbusters 2takes place, and the world almost did come to an end until the Ghostbusters saved the day again.
The sad thing about these kind of cinematic predictions about the end of the world is that if one of them actually came true, no one would be around to celebrate it or tell the next generation of humanity about it. At the very least, maybe aGhostbustersviewing party would be a way to appease any evil spirits that might be considering ending the world this weekend. After all, we haven’t seenCaptain America: Civil Waryet, and that’s something I’d like to do before I die.
