InThe Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the evil President Snow decides the best way to celebrate the 75th anniversary of The Hunger Games is to do it like an All-Star game and have a bunch of former winners come back to the arena. This, of course, includes Katniss and Peeta as well as several other new characters. One of them is Plummer’s character, Wiress, a shy, smart, awkward, older tribute from District 3 who most of the other tributes reject as an ally. Katniss embraces her, though, and it’s Wiress who figures out an element crucial to the newly changed Hunger Games.
Plummer has been working consistently since the early Eighties and is best known for playing the role of Honey Bunny in Quentin Tarantino’sPulp Fiction. Over the last twenty years, though, she’s been in a long string of smaller movies though she’d occasionally appear on TV shows likeBattlestar Galactica. This is by far the biggest thing she’s done since the turn of the century.
Here’s the official plot description of the film:
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE will be directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has over 36 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.
